This spring PrakSis is offering a Spring Session of exciting new classes by well-established Chicago based artists and educators. PrakSis was born to create a dynamic art experience, migrating to diverse locations across the cityscape by transforming building spaces rendered vacant due to the downturn in the real estate market into living art galleries. Since June 2011, PrakSis has opened its doors to young people interested in learning about different practices within the arts. This has been a very exciting endeavor for PrakSis the teachers and the students. Some classes being offered are: weaving, papermaking, green art, ceramics, video, bookmaking, painting and drawing. An expert in the field who has experience and enjoys working with young people will lead each class. The educators: Miyeon Kwon is Chicago based artist and graduate of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago who primarily works in ceramics and public art. Her work has been exhibited internationally and she has been teaching college and young people for the past two years. She is also the director of PrakSis gallery. Kristie Keenon is a painter and educator who is a graduate of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Columbia College. She has taught art in Chicago’s Charter School network as well as local City Colleges. She has shown her work nationally. Soo Shin is a Chicago based painter, printmaker and fiber artist who has shown her work internationally. She has also worked as an adjunct professor at The School of the Art Institute. Will Goss is a Chicago based photographer and educator. He graduated from The School of the Art Institute and has shown his work internationally. He is an adjunct professor at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Mike Gibbiser is a Chicago based filmmaker who graduated from The School of the Art Institute and University of Illinois Chicago. He is currently the Media Center Director at the University of Chicago. We look forward to seeing you this spring! Instructors

Miyeon Kwon studied ceramics at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where is conceptual free, Mi-yeon Kwon developed a unique sense of art including clay drawing. Clay drawing is a technique where she makes a two-dimensional line drawing appear in three dimensions by using clay built up along the lines of a figure to give it depth. She also continues to paint as a way to inspire clay work and multi media, video, sound, and art and technology in collaboration. She was awarded CAAP 2011 and Anna Louise Raymond Fellowship at SAIC and Seventh Annual Leadership Award in 2001. Her teaching experience at college level is at art history, art appreciation, studio arts, and Asian art through out the Chicago area. She has shown her work in South Korea, Japan, and U.S.A. During her management, Prak-sis was awarded WPB: Grant by Wicker Park Bucktown Chamber of Commerce in 2009 and she was selected for KEPCO 2010 Art Show and her public sculpture commissioned by the city of Ulsan in Korea. She was also invited to Onggi Expo as a VIP artist after her management of four public sculptures. Her most recent project was Core-52-55 in Mexico City that involved 15 volunteers using plastic bottles to built a 9feet tall sculpture in Muse de San Carlos as part of Propuesta de Proyectio para Wasting Away, Latitud 19° Arte Contemporáneo.

Kristie Keenon studied fine arts with an emphasis in art history, theory and criticism at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and art education at Columbia College. Her paintings examine the power structure within pop culture while using bright colors influenced by the German expressionists. She incorporates social and digital media that have transient qualities and suspends them within the confines of traditional oil painting. She has shown her work throughout the United States from the West Coast to the East Coast. She has been awarded the 2007 CAAP award, was selected as a promising new artist by The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2005 and was awarded a Special Assistance Grant by the Illinois Arts Council in 2007. She currently is an adjunct professor of art appreciation and graphic design at ITT and spent a year teaching for Chicago International Charter Schools.

Will Goss is a Chicago based photographer who graduated from the School of the Art Institute in 2011 where he was the recipient the Enrichment Scholarship. He has worked as a teacher at The School of the Art Institute, video producer and a summer art school instructor. He is a master of Super 8mm and 16mm Cameras, Digital Video Cameras, Video Editing, DVD encoding, Set design, Green Screen, Acting, Scriptwriting, Audio recording and editing, Writing and editing, Final Cut Pro, Pro Tools, After Effects, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, DVD Studio Pro, Compressor, Microsoft Word.

                   


Mike Gibisser is a Teaching Assistant in the School of Art and Design, College of        Architecture and the Arts, received a grant from the Princess Grace Foundation USA for $25,000, presented to emerging talents in theater, dance, and film. Gibisser's thesis project, a film called "The Day of Two Noons," is a personal documentary on the cultural context of Alzheimer's, both historically and in contemporary society. He is also the technical coordinator at the University of Chicago. Mike received his M.A. in Visual Critical Studies from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and his M.F.A. in Moving Images from University of Illinois Chicago.

Soo Shin is a Chicago based artist who received her M.F.A. in Fiber and Material Studies from The School of the Art Institute in 2011. Her work has been exhibited internationally. She has received an Honorable Mention from the Chicago Union League Foundation, the World Less Traveled Grant form The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Clare Rosen and Samuel Edes Foundation prize for emerging artist.
